Day 1 - San Diego to NYC to Madrid to Porto
The chain of events or at least the way we hope it goes: We've used frequent flyer mileage to get to Madrid on Delta and some cheapo airline that Scout found on a Walmart bathroom wall to get us from there to Porto. We're confident about the bathroom wall airline...not so sure about Delta. Things are going swell so far: Scout's DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) from her downhill marathon Saturday started manifesting itself on the last downhill of the Tinkerbell Half Marathon yesterday, and by last night, she was having Dave be her servant so she didn't have to pry herself from the sofa. And, this morning, her walk on the jetway to the plane took 40 minutes as other passengers trampled over her. So far so good. Then, both of us packed our iborophen in our checked bags so no relief on the 5 hour flight to NYC. Who says travel isn't fun? Did we mention it's Delta?
Things have taken a turn for the better. Scout has lost three straight Scrabble games. Unfortunately, no screenshot was taken of the first one when Dave scored 812 points.
Game number 4: I'm not letting Dave win this one, so, of course, he's pouting. Don't care, but, now he'll start complaining about his hip again. Like that made a difference!
Ok, getting ready to land in NYC and may have some internet at the airport before we take off in a few hours for the overnight flight to Europe, and will upload this most interesting travel day before we consume massive amounts of wine on our next flight. Gotta take advantage of the freebies.
And, a little overpriced JFK wine, beer (food coming) before we head out.

I'm excited for you! Safe travels. Hope the sequel is as good (or better) than the original. I've heard this route is not as well marked, so you may score bonus miles. Enjoy the trails, the towns, the scenery and the seafood, and last but not least, the wine and the fun of it all. Buon Camino!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary. Looking forward to walking, enjoying the sites, the wine- i.e.- the whole experience. Thanks so much for the well wishes. First things though : we arrived safely!
